HeartCode® ACLS is the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s online, self-paced Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) instructional program. It uses eSimulation technology to allow students to assess and treat patients in virtual healthcare settings. In this environment, students apply their knowledge to real-time decision making and skills development. Debriefings and coaching are provided immediately after each simulation. After completing the knowledge-basedportion of the course, students practice and test their skills with a Heart and Stroke Foundation (HSF) ACLS instructor. Upon successful completion of the knowledgeand skills tests, students receive a course completion card.

  • Ten interactive, hospital-based cases to teach ACLS knowledge, building on the foundation of lifesaving BLS for Healthcare Providers skills and the importance of continuous, high-quality CPR

HeartCode® ACLS Prerequisites:
  • Students must have a valid HSF BLS Healthcare Provider course completion card.
  • To receive an HSF ACLS course completion card using this program, students must successfully complete all three parts of the ACLS course and meet the required prerequisites.
  • Students should be able to identify ECG rhythms and should know pharmacology specific to cardiopulmonary arrest and other cardiopulmonary emergencies before beginning the course.
 
HeartCode® ACLS Part 1
Upon successful completion of the online portion, including the written exam, students receive a Part 1 certificate of completion, which must be presented for Parts 2 and 3.
 
HeartCode® ACLS Part 2, a hands-on skills practice session with an authorized HSFACLS instructor within 60 days.
 
HeartCode® ACLS Part 3, a hands-on skills test with an authorized HSF ACLS instructor within 60 days.
 
After successful completion of all three parts, you will receive an HSF ACLS course completion card, valid for two years.
 
It is important that students register for Part 2 and 3 completer courses before purchasing their HeartCode® ACLS Part 1 key
 
Any fees associated with skills sessions (Part 2 and3) are sold separately and must be completed within 60 days of completing Part 1.

Initial Certification  

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is an advanced, instructor-led classroom course that highlights the importance of team management of a cardiac arrest, team dynamics and communication, systems of care and immediate post-cardiac-arrest care. Specific skills in airway management and related pharmacology are also featured. Skills are taught through discussion and group learning, while testing stations offer case-based scenarios using simulators.

ACLS Course Content
  • Key changes in advanced cardiovascular life support, reflecting the 2020 Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC)
  • Basic life-support skills, including effective chest compressions, use of a bag-mask device and an automated external defibrillator (AED)
  • Recognition and early management of respiratory and cardiac arrest using a manual defibrillator and equipment commonly found on a crash cart
  • Recognition and early management of peri-arrest conditions such as symptomatic bradycardia
  • Airway management
  • Related pharmacology
  • Management of acute coronary syndromes (ACS) and stroke
  • Effective communication as a member and leader of a resuscitation team
  • Effective resuscitation team dynamics

Skills are taught in group sessions, as well as in small-group learning-and-testing stations, where case-based scenarios are presented.

HeartCode BLS uses a variety of eLearning assets such as dramatizations, eSimulations, animations, self-directed learning, and interactive activities to teach students BLS knowledge and skills.

After completing the online portion, students attend a structured BLS Hands-On Session with an AHA Instructor. This session focuses on meaningful skills practice, debriefing, team scenarios, discussions of local protocols, and skills testing. 

HeartCode BLS is for healthcare professionals seeking an alternative method for completing an initial or renewal BLS Course.

The Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers(BLS) Classroom Course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner.


This course is for healthcare professionals who need to know how to perform CPR, as well as other lifesaving skills, in a wide variety of in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings.

Heartsaver CPR/AED  - Adult, Child, & Infant CPR/AED


Course Description
This American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR and AED course was the first in the nation to combine hands-on AED instruction with CPR training. The course teaches the basic techniques of adult, child, and infant CPR and use of an AED.

Students also learn to use barrier devices in CPR and give first aid for choking in the responsive victim. The course teaches how to recognize the signs of three major emergencies: heart attack, stroke, and choking.

Audience 
All lay responders with a duty to respond, such as employees in the workplace, firefighters, police, airline personnel, security guards, teachers, massage therapists, personal trainers, lifeguards, childcare providers, family members of patients at high risk for sudden cardiac death, and other lay rescuers who may need to respond to a cardiac emergency and learn how to use an AED.

The Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Provider course enables healthcare professionals to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to better recognize and treat critically ill infants and children. The course materials are scenario-based, and a team approach is used to teach emergency management of pediatric patients approaching or already in respiratory or cardiac arrest, from the early minutes through patient stabilization and/or the transport phases of a pediatric emergency, in or out of the hospital.

Target Group

The PALS course is designed for healthcare professionals who initiate and direct advanced life support in pediatric emergencies and for healthcare students seeking PALS-training credentials.

PALS Course Content

  • Recognition and treatment of infants and children at risk for cardiopulmonary arrest
